WHEN Lionel Messi is off target, anybody can stand and deliver for Barcelona.
Xavi Hernandez stepped into the limelight by setting a club record in their 1-0 triumph over Granada in the La Liga at Los Carmenes Stadium on Tuesday night.
The ace playmaker connected on a free kick in the 33rd minute to complete a fitting highlight to his record 392nd league appearance for the Catalans.
With his feat, the 31-year-old Spaniard surpassed by one the mark of Migueli, a central defender known as “Tarzan’’ when he saw action for Barca in the 1970s and ‘80s. This latest achievement added to the ever-growing fame of Xavi who has already owned the appearance record for all competitions with 591 as of Tuesday.
