CARLOS Tevez courted another trouble with yet another move not in favour of Manchester City.
He failed to report for training on Wednesday and by doing so, he could be meted with a fresh disciplinary action by the Premier League club.
The controversial 27-year-old striker was due to return to Manchester on Wednesday but he extended his stay in his native Argentina where he flew in earlier this week together with daughter Florencia. The club confirmed he did not appear at their training complex.
City directed Tevez to return to the club at once for he could be facing a possible fine in excess of £750,000 for skipping practice.
The club has already sent him an e-mail message asking him to explain his absence, return immediately and attend a meeting on Monday. He was given until Friday to reply.
Tevez was fined two weeks’ wages last month for five breaches of contract in the aftermath of his alleged refusal to come on as substitute during their 0-2 Champions League loss to Bayern Munich last Sept. 27.
He, however, had denied the claims and insisted there was just a misunderstanding between him and manager Roberto Mancini.
The City boss had earlier said Tevez’s career at City is “finished’’ but recent reports in England and Italy said the Argentine may continue to play with City if he apologises to Mancini and his teammates.
Not only City were dismayed by the latest misdeed of Tevez.
His latest defiance also drew the attention of Gordon Taylor, the head of England’s main players union Professional Footballers Association (PFA).
It was the PFA who helped Tevez’ fine cut from four weeks to two weeks’ wages last month.
Taylor said that because of his latest miscue, Tevez left himself vulnerable to further action by City.
‘His advisors must be wondering “where do we go from here?”‘ Taylor told Sky Sports.
Taylor added: ‘I don’t cut off anything with my players even when they’re in the wrong.’
The PFA head said he’ll advise Tevez that he’s just not doing himself any good at all.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
What Tevez did opened the floodgates for more trouble than peace between himself and City. It all but renewed the scars of their earlier spats and could lead to further discussions surrounding his stay or exit. And Tevez could be facing another sanction when he returns to Manchester.
