Tevez, Neymar also on Anzhi’s wanted list

ANZHI Makhachkala are determined to become an elite club so they are eyeing more top-notch players to join their roster.

The moneyed Russian outfit on Thursday expressed their desire to acquire Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez and Brazilian star Neymar.

Tevez and Neymar are the latest targets of the club who recently made significant signings with Samuel Eto’o and Yuri Zhirkov.

The Caspian Sea side appear to be in a position to land the disgruntled Tevez, who is tipped to leave City in January as the probe surrounding his recent refusal to play as a substitute against Bayern Munich resumes. This is bolstered by the fact that clubs willing to meet his asking price are hard to find.

A source at the club, who recently tapped Andrei Gordeyev and Roberto Carlos as joint caretaker managers,  told the Kiev-based Tvoi Den daily broadsheet that the conditions for signing Tevez are “very good.’’

Carlos also revealed their plans to get Neymar, who is also said to be on the wanted list of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Carlos is hoping that the Brazilian striker would consider signing for Anzhi if he fails to move to either Spanish club. Premier League side Chelsea had earlier refused to meet his release clause.

Russian oil magnate Suleiman Kerimov bought Anzhi earlier this year and the club has since made bold moves to snare pricey players.

The reported move to land Tevez and Neymar came a month after netted Eto’o from Inter Milan in a 21-million euro (US$27.9 million) deal that made the Cameroon international the most expensive footballer in the world.

A former lower-division side, Anzhi were earlier bolstered by the addition of Carlos, a Brazil 1994 World Cup winner, and Russian international winger Zhirkov.

Anzhi had a strong start in the Russian league this season but have slipped to eighth place, forcing them to look for another striker who can perk up their haul of 29 goals from 26 games.

The club’s other future plans include bidding to sign Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and the club’s controversial manager Jose Mourinho.

OPINION: Anzhi should be lauded for their bold intention to land expensive players. Money really talks. Let’s just wish their plans would not backfire on them.
