EMBATTLED Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez will find out what his penalty would be when he faces a club inquiry on Friday.
The investigation was brought about by his alleged refusal to come on as substitute during their recent Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich.
City manager Roberto Mancini claimed the Argentine refused to play and this prompted him to announce that the latter’s career with the club is finished. Tevez was eventually slapped with a two-week disciplinary ban.
But there is a chance that Tevez may not even be indicted because it appeared no one among City’s playing staff backed Mancini’s allegations. His only penalty could be brought about by his refusal to obey his boss’ orders.
Among the other hearsays surrounding the incident was the way Mancini shouted his instructions in Italian to his former captain who also previously insisted that there was a case of misunderstanding between the two of them.
The inquiry on the controversial striker comes as City prepare to battle arch nemesis Manchester United in a much-awaited tussle between the top two Premier League squads this Sunday.
The Argentine has become public enemy No. 1 in Manchester “hate’’ moves have been in the air as City prepare to visit the Red Devils’ lair. Tevez left United in 2009 to join City.
United sponsors Betfair will put up a giant rubbish “Recycling Tevez’’ skips – one half blue and the other half red –outside Old Trafford to encourage fans to ditch their Tevez replica shirts which will be dispatched to his native Argentina and turned over to local charities. Dumped t-shirts will be exchanged for brand new ones.
Over 75,000 fans are expected to troop down Sir Matt Busby Way for the match.
In another Tevez-related news, Corinthians football director Edu said the Argentine could be off-loaded by City in January for just 20 million pounds.
The former Arsenal playmaker told Brazilian media on Thursday that part of his work is to search for players who want to come back to Brazil and Tevez is on his list. “I cannot deny that he is one of those.’’
Edu has already held talks with former Arsenal teammate Patrick Vieira, presently City’s football development executive, and Tevez’s adviser Kia Joorabchian to discuss the matter.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
OPINION: As pressure mounts on him, Tevez could find it hard to get his playing rhythm back. The “Trash Your Tevez Shirt’’ campaign would surely affect him psychologically.
