CONTROVERSIAL striker Carlos Tevez has landed in Manchester on Tuesday night but it remains unclear whether he could finally play again for City.
He was escorted by police upon arriving from his native Argentina where he spent three months since falling out with City boss Roberto Mancini.
The club’s former captain headed straight to the team training ground for a series of medical tests but doubts were raised if he would be put back immediately to first-team duty.
Before leaving his native land, Tevez incurred the ire of Mancini and the City board when he said during an interview with an Italian TV crew that the manager “treated him like a dog.”
As a result, Tevez is now facing another possible fine as the clubs are expected to issue a statement on Wednesday in connection with his latest slip-up.
City travel to Portugal the same day for a Europa League clash against Porto set Thursday night with Mancini hoping Tevez’s return will not disrupt his preparations for the game, as well as in the Premier League where they presently hold a precarious lead.
Tevez angered Mancini when he refused to warm up and come on during their Champions League game against Bayern Munich last September.
Mancini had earlier said that he wants Tevez to make a public apology, a matter the latter’s advisers are set to discuss with their client.
The squad are expected to be home Friday during which Mancini could listen to Tevez air his side.
Tevez is expected to start training with a fitness coach after he was examined by a City sports scientist.
Aside from Tevez, brothers Yaya and Koulo Toure are also back with the squad from international duty.
Defender Joleon Lescott welcomed the three to the fold, saying via Twitter: “All our players are expected to have Carlos, Kolo and Yaya back to help achieve our goal.’’
It is believed other City players texted Tevez to welcome him back.
In the interview before he left Argentina, Tevez blamed City for forcing him to return to his country where his family resides.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Tevez should issue the apology that Mancini is demanding from him. Doing this could finally “heal’’ the wound caused by their previous spat. Allowing Tevez to play for the team would boost their chances of success.
