Teammates show support for Tevez

EMBATTLED Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez is not alone in his present predicament. His teammates are backing him during the investigation on his refusal to play in the Champions League during the midweek.

Tevez was suspended for two weeks by City pending a full probe of his defiant attitude toward City boss Roberto Mancini in their game against Bayern Munich which they lost 0-2.

Defender Pablo Zabaleta on Thursday said he and his other teammates will extend a helping hand to Tevez, his fellow Argentine.

“We need to try to help Carlos,’’ he has been a really important player for us in the last two years but maybe this season he has had more games on the bench.

Zabaleta added: “Sometimes that is difficult and more so for strikers, who need to play, need to score, need to feel confident.’’

Zabaleta said they need to accept that sometimes players like them are on the bench. Zabaleta also watched from the sidelines during that loss at the Allianz Arena.

“Everybody always wants to play, maybe it’s like that, ‘’ said Zabaleta in trying to rationalise the behaviour of Tevez.

Meanwhile, striker Sergio Aguero, a close friend of Tevez, said he regretted the latest rift between Tevez and the club.

“Carlos is a great player but obviously I am not inside his mind, to know his throught and opinions,’’ said Aguero.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
Tevez should thank his teammates for the support thrown at him. He has a lot of catching up to do to restore his damaged reputation as a City player.
