Suarez: Reds seek cups, not league title

Following Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s statements, Liverpool star Luis Suarez recently stated that his club must shift focus to silverware, as the Premier League title will be unattainable.

According to the striker, the current competition – Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea – is one major factor to the Reds being virtually out of contention for the title.

Although Suarez intends to get Liverpool into the top four, he described that passing the two Manchester squads would be an incredibly difficult feat.

It is for this reason, he continued, that the team must focus on winning cup competitions, which is a more likely thing to happen.

In terms of their progress in this respect, the Reds stand comfortable in their race towards the Carling Cup, having beaten Exeter and Brighton to claim victory in the first two games.

The Reds also display tenacious home defence, having never lost a match in Anfield this season.

Suarez has been continuously making his mark in the club, scoring a total of five goals in nine matches.  Acquired for £24 million, the striker has proved himself instrumental to the club’s performance.

The Uruguayan had spoken of his desire to prove himself worthy of his tag price, as well as the number 7 he is sporting.  The No. 7 shirt had been worn by Liverpool’s most notable names, including current manager Kenny Dalglish.

The striker recalled how he picked the No. 7 as it was one of the remaining ones available, and was in the dark regarding its historical significance.

Manager Kenny Dalglish has never run out of praises for the Uruguayan, and explained that Suarez’s display of an intense desire to push the club forward endears him to Liverpool’s supporters.

‘The fans take to him because he is so genuine and 100 per cent committed,’ the Daily Mail quoted Dalglish.  ‘The crowd love players like that.’

King Kenny furthered, saying Suarez ‘has his own ideas and he is full of them,’ and described him as nothing less than ‘fantastic.’

AUTHOR’S OPINION
A cup race is something that Liverpool could definitely excel in. Suarez hits it on the spot, frankly, with the two Manchester giants surging in the EPL. But Liverpool could perhaps do well in a hunt for silverware. Suarez will only get better over time and, should Andy Carroll come into full form, the Reds could expect more wins – and cups – to come their way.
