Sneijder not for sale, says Inter chief

WESLEY Sneijder is staying with Inter Milan after all.

No less than Inter president Massimo Moratti broke the news confirming that the ace midfielder will not be sold.

“Wesley is untouchable and he is going nowhere,’’ Moratti told Gazetta della Sport.

Sensing he would lose a key player with the imminent departure of striker Samuel Eto’o, Moratti held on to keep the 27-year-old Dutch playmaker.

Sneijder was earlier rumoured to be top on the wanted list of Premier League holders Manchester United and that he could be sold for the right price, but Moratti totally dismissed the hearsays.

Moratti also rebuffed talks that they are eyeing Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez, saying any deal is unlikely and that he is now concentrating on other options to address the problem to be posed by Eto’o’s relocation to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

Sneijder is simply hard to dispatch for Moratti.

The midfield wizard, nicknamed “The Sniper’’ for his ability to supply pin-point passes and connect from long range, helped Inter won the 2010 Champions League crown.

He is best remembered for converting the equaliser against Barcelona in the first leg of their semifinal playoff which the Italians won 3-1.

In the final against Bayern Munich, he was instrumental in their 2-0 victory, making a nifty feed to Diego Milito for their first goal. Milito netted the other goal.

Not only that. Upon joining Inter from Real Madrid in 2009, Sneijder also helped Inter capture the Serie A and Coppa Italia crowns on his first season.

Inter finished second to AC Milan in the Serie Alast season and reached the final 8 of the Champions League. They ended up with one trophy though – the Coppa Italia – after they defeated Palermo in the final.

Sneijder scored only 4 goals in 25 appearances for last season as he was hampered by injury. His contract with the team will expire in 2015.
