Rumour: LA Galaxy eyeing Drogba as Beckham exits

REPORTS are suggesting that Didier Drogba is within the peripheral vision of US team LA Galaxy who are in danger of losing David Beckham.

Said to have been confirmed, the rumour suggests that the MLS squad, still buzzing from their widely celebrated first league cup victory, are also growing concerned over Beckham’s seemingly inevitable departure.  The impending problem poses a threat of a huge gaping hole that would result from the star player’s exit.

However, it would also result in a larger salary space that could very well accommodate a sought-after talent like Drogba.

LA Galaxy’s interest presents one among a number of other possibilities laid out in front of Drogba, who has also garnered the attention of other clubs throughout Europe.

The striker is reportedly in the radar of Serie A outfit AC Milan, who are also in desperate need of an immediate replacement for striker Antonio Cassano.  According to insidefutbol.com, the plan is to have Drogba come in on a loan by January.

‘I was in love with Drogba when he was at Marseille,’ said AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani, who was also considering netting Drogba’s teammate Nicolas Anelka.

‘[Drogba and Anelka] are great players, in good physical condition.  They are players of great quality and attitude.’

However, perhaps the loudest bid for the Chelsea star comes from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.  The cash-rich squad, funded by billionaire Suleiman Kerimov, are said to be ready to offer him a €12 million yearly salary.

This outstrips what LA Galaxy are prepared to offer Drogba, which is an amount of around €8 million.

What the MLS club offers other than the salary, however, is an opportunity for the Blues player to build a life and end his career in America.

More recent news stated, however, that Drogba was keener on receiving a two-year contract extension with Chelsea. He had effectively turned down Anzhi’s offer, despite the Blues only offering a one-year contract.

Drogba turning down Anzhi’s offer puts a damper on the plans of the Russian team who are bent on becoming an elite force in football.

Earlier this year, the club managed to snag Samuel Eto’o from AC Milan, and offered him a €21 million deal that made him the world’s most expensive footballer.
