Ronaldo blames fan hostilities on his looks

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo reacted to regular hostile reception by attributing the behaviour to rabid envy.

The most recent incident involving boos and jeers from a massive crowd was during Madrid’s recent Champions League match against Dinamo Zagreb at the Stadion Maksimir.

‘I think that because I am rich, handsome and a great player people are envious of me,’ mused the 26-year old star forward.  ‘I don’t have any other explanation.’

Further challenges met Ronaldo during the second half of the match, when Dinamo’s Jerko Leko accidentally caught his ankle in mid-air while aiming for the ball.  This sent Ronaldo spinning and crashing to the ground.  The incident drew blood and required a few stitches.

Despite the mishap, Madrid went on to win the match 0-1 with a 53rd minute goal by Angel di Maria.

‘We are very happy with three points,’ said Ronaldo, ‘but I’m not so satisfied with the refereeing.’

‘I hope we never have this referee again,’ he continued.  ‘People talk of fair play, of protecting good players but I never get any of that.  I don’t understand a thing.’

‘I’m sad because I hear referees saying they will protect skilful players, but while some are untouchable it seems I can be mauled.’

The statements were directed towards referee Svein Oddvar, who let Leko walk away after the incident.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
What could anyone expect from Cristiano Ronaldo? Subtlety? It’s not the first time his words made the news. Anyone who proclaims himself worthy of the ‘best World Player’ award will OF COURSE make comments like these. They’re funny, but not something to give too much attention to.
