Robbie Savage, with his golden hair and rugged looks, recently dropped his trousers and posed stark naked for an Everyman’s testicular cancer campaign.
The retired football star, who also appeared in the ninth series of Britain’s Strictly Come Dancing, went on a photo shoot for a centrefold in Cosmopolitan magazine. The spread showed Savage sitting in a chair with nothing but his hand hiding his manhood.
Although retired since last year, Savage still showed himself – tattoos and all – as an incredibly fit and well-toned specimen who could possibly even take on a few football matches should he want to.
A father to two children, the former midfielder took part in the campaign because the disease had affected him on a personal level, when former Celtic player John Hartson was diagnosed with the condition.
‘Everyman’s testicular cancer campaign is close to my heart,’ he said. ‘My friend John Hartson found a lump, but put off seeing a doctor for three years – it nearly cost him his life.’
The footballer had recently ended his appearance on Strictly where he and partner Ola Jordan dazzled audiences with their natural flair. There was also the unnatural pace at which their orange skin tones became deeper and deeper.
Savage said that the lack of the layers of fake tan on his body now made him feel ‘naked.’
‘When I was playing football, I felt naked without my boots on,’ he said. ‘Now, doing Strictly Come Dancing, I feel naked without fake tan!’
The footballer’s time in Strictly was also highlighted by his signature pelvic thrusts that did not go down well with some of the bosses, who eventually banned it.
His moves were also said to have brought in about 300 viewer complaints, which reportedly got the bosses concerned about the show’s 3D version.
Despite the widespread calls against his moves, Savage remained defiant, standing his ground via Twitter and insisting his thrusts will not be stopped.
‘Votes are in public have decided there will be a savage thrust in the final rules are there to be broken! You will get 1 last thrust #scd”
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Savage’s photo will definitely get some eyes turning his way (and hopefully, attention turning towards his cause). Hasn’t been the same since those borderline-offensive hip thrusts of his, good to know he’s keeping his nerves steel-strong with this photo shoot. But kidding aside, hats off to Mr. Savage.
