THERE’S a career waiting for Fabio Capello when his stint as England coach is over.
That is because big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala expressed their intetnion to hire the Italian after his duties with the Three Lions.
Newly-appointed player-coach Robert Carlos confirmed the news through the Sportsmail recently. The 38-year-old defender was reported to have already made talks with his bosses about their transfer targets inlcuding who should take over as manager after the sacking of Gadzhi Gadzhiev.
Carlos said Anzhi’s Russian owner Suleyman Kerimov wants Capello to call the shots after mentoring England at next summer’s European Championships. “I am having dinner with the president tonight and we will speak about signings and coaches for next season.”
Carlos and fellow coach Andrey Gordeev were given authority to take charge until the end of the Russian season. The next plan is hire a top manager and players in the calibre of Samuel Eto’o who was inked from Inter Milan for 21 million pounds last August.
Among the top-class players also being eyed by Anzhi are veterans Steven Gerrard of England and Frank Lampard of Chelsea.
“We will be talking about Lampard and Gerrard ans ome other big names in football,” said Carlos. “In terms of coaches there are sevral names such as Capello, Guus Hiddink, Venderlei Luxemburgo and Luis Felipe Scolari.”
Former West Ham and Chelsea boss Avram Grant is giving Anzhi advice on their plan to acquire new additonas to the team. Grant himslef is expected to be tapped to play a major role with Anzhi.
Meanwhile, Capello will assess the fitness of Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand before naming his squad for a Euro 2012 tie next Friday in Montenegro.
Gerrard, Rooney and Ferdinand are in teh provisional squad but he wants to make sure they are in their tip-top form before inclduing them in the Three Lions’ final group game.
