An angry Jose Mourinho reportedly planned to ambush the referee who officiated the recent El Clasico match that saw Barcelona oust Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey.
A photo published on Barcelona’s daily sports publication El Mundo Deportivo showed the Real Madrid manager at the Camp Nou car-park at what was said to be midnight Wednesday after the match that saw Barcelona boot the current Copa champions out of the race.
Dressed in sweatpants, the manager was reportedly waiting for referee Fernando Teixeira Vitienes, whom he blamed for his side’s defeat.
The Madrid boss was upset over the official’s decision to call off a Sergio Ramos goal, and then sending the player off the field after a confrontation with Sergio Busquets.
“Quite the artist, how you like to screw the professionals” witnesses said Mourinho shouted in Teixeira’s face after walking up to him and stopping just two feet away.
Similar sentiments towards Teixeira were expressed by Real captain Iker Casillas, who reportedly told the referee he could “go and party” with the players of Barcelona.
Signs of the manager’s dissatisfaction over the officiating were showing during the post-match interview. No reference, however, was made to the referees.
“I learned nothing from this game,” said Mourinho, according to Mirror Football. “I do congratulate Barcelona for their win in Madrid, happily. They deserved it.
“But I played here with Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid. It’s nothing new to me. I’m not insinuating anything.
“But I have heard people in the locker room say that it is impossible to win here,” he said. “Ask the players who said it.”
The Portuguese added that while he was willing to commend Barcelona’s performance during the first leg, he refused to give them the same acknowledgement for their more recent win.
“I will congratulate Barcelona for what they did at the Bernabeu last week,” he said, “but not for the qualification.”
The Catalans advance to the competition’s semi-finals where they will face Valencia on 1 February.
