Liverpool officials have begun an investigation on striker Nathan Eccleston over a controversial tweet on the September 11 New York City attacks.
According to reports, the probe will centre on Eccleston’s tweet claiming that terrorists were not responsible for the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center last 2011.
‘The club takes this matter extremely seriously and senior club officials have informed Nathan Eccleston that we are undertaking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding these postings,’ said a spokesman of the American-owned football outfit.
Any disciplinary actions will be executed upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Eccleston’s tweet, now deleted, suggested that the events of 9/11 have been hyped by media coverage.
‘I ain’t going to say attack don’t let the media make you believe that was terrorists that did it,’ read the tweet.
The tweet further suggested that, according to Eccleston, the ones responsible for the attack might have been the secret society called the Illuminati.
Following the message was a hashtag, added to a tweet to mark keywords or topics, which read ‘#O.T.I.S., or ‘Only The Illuminati Succeed’.
Following the deletion of Eccleston’s message came another one that read ‘If you don’t like what I have to say un follow me!! Some things get took way out of context.’
The striker’s twitter account currently has over 39,000 followers.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
This is one of those stories that just merits a hearty laugh. There’s nothing better about conspiracy theories than having them made by a well-known (?) individual, then made known to the public. The Illuminati, huh? Not terrorists, at all. Okay then.
