Redknapp rages at ref after Spurs defeat

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp hurled a set of choice words at Chris Foy and other referees after his squad’s 11-match unbeaten streak was broken with a 2-1 loss this weekend at Stoke.

According to Redknapp, although defeat was something he was usually willing to accept, the results of the match were brought about by several lapses in judgment by the referees.

The Spurs coach stated that his team should have been given three penalties, and were robbed of an Emmanuel Adebayor goal that Redknapp argued as onside.  The referees, however, ruled it an offside play.

‘They don’t make mistakes on purpose,’ said Redknapp.  ‘But [Foy] will look at it tonight on TV when his wife’s making him a bacon sandwich and he’ll think “Oh fuck me, what have I done there?”’

He continued, restating that he believed there was no malicious intent behind the alleged oversights, and instead related it to Foy having ‘a bad day.’

‘So did the linesman, who missed Adebayor being two yards onside,’ Redknapp said.

‘Some of the decisions were just amazing,’ he continued.  ‘You look at the replays and how the ref or linesman gives Adebayor offside I don’t know.’

He also cited a couple of alleged instances of handballs in the goalline.

‘I wondered how he’d got it off the line but if you see the replays, you’ll see the most blatant handball you’ve ever seen on a goalline.’

Reports stated that a goal attempt by Spurs’ Tounes Kaboul was blocked by Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross using his arm.

Reports stated that Stokes’ Ryan Shawcross blocked a goal attempt by Younes Kaboul using his arm.  After that was a similar incident of Dean Whitehead handling an attempt by Jermain Defoe.

The two incidents however were not called by Foy.

‘I felt like the ref wasn’t going to give us much,’ said Redknapp.  ‘I felt like he was quite enjoying giving us nothing.  Why couldn’t he see them?

‘When the ball gets rattled in and the fella on the line goes like that with his arm, it’s handball.’

Kaboul was sent off after two yellow cards, the first for arguing to the referee that the incident called for a penalty, and another for an ‘innocuous’ challenge.

‘I never go and talk to referees after a game, never,’ Redknapp said.  ‘But I did today.’
