Redknapp predicts more Adebayor goals

HARRY Redknapp is smiling a lot these days because Tottenham Hotspur are in an upbeat mood and one of his players is making a big impression.

The Spurs rolled to two mighty wins in the Premier League recently, one a 2-0 thrashing of Wolverhampton and the other a 4-0 pulverising of Liverpool.

And the man of the moment for the Spurs is Emmanuel Adebayor whom Redknapp described as “fantastic’’ in their recent outings.

“He was great in our latest victories,’’ Redknapp said the 27-year-old Adebayor who is on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

Adebayor has scored three goals in his first two games for the Spurs, a performance which Redknapp said was not a bad start.

Redknapp also predicted that with his current form, Adebayor could score 20 goals this season which could prove vital in their bid to gain a spot in the Champions League.

“He’s got great awareness and touch. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be up there and score 20 goals this season,’’ added Redknapp.

The Spurs boss said they are a much better team now with Adebayor in the roster.

Their new-found confidence has given the Spurs confidence as they prepare to battle Arsenal on October 2.

The Gunners raked in 25 million pounds when they sold the 27 year-old Togo striker in July 2009.

“Will Arsenal regret selling Adebayor?’’ asked Redknapp. “They sold him for big money but I think he’ll be a big hit here (Tottenham).’’

Adebayor was also praised by his teammate, winger Gareth Bale, for his “electric start’’ and contribution off the pitch.

“He is a great character,’’ Bale said of Adebayor. “He gets along with everyone and has lifted the spirits in the place.’’

Bale likewise lauded Adebayor’s ability to play the ball on the floor and in the air, as well as his scoring prowess. “That’s exactly what we needed. The longer he stays, the better.’’

AUTHOR’S OPINION
Adebayor is surely a boon to the Spurs but they must not rely on just one man to produce positive results. Tottenham is not just Adebayor. There are other players who can be depended upon. If they play rock-solid as a team, the Spurs will be a tough contender.
