Real Madrid eyeing Jack Wilshere

Reports indicate that Primera Liga giants Real Madrid have included Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere in their wanted list comprising five young, up-and-coming players.

The checklist was said to feature players the club wants in their lineup by 2014.  This presents potential conflicts especially considering the fact that Wilshere’s contract with Arsenal expires in 2015.

The information on the list was leaked to the public by a Spanish newspaper known for its intense focus on the activities and developments within Real Madrid.

According to the publication, Real are looking to intensify their lineup not with big names but with potentially lethal young players they can acquire for between £20 million and £30 million.  This would allow the club to put the players under intense training and mould their individual styles to complement that of Real’s.

The other names included in the list include Rafina Alcantara (Barcelona), Iker Muniain (Athletic Bilbao), Mario Gotze (Borussia Dortmund), and Eden Hasard (Lille).  Like Wilshere, each of the players are under 20 years old.

Real Madrid’s plans to nab Wilshere would have to include a way to convince the 19-year old midfielder, who had signed a five-year contract with Arsenal, and publicly stated that he planned to stay with the Gunners for his entire career.

Except for a loan period to the Bolton Wanderers from 2009-2010 Wilshere had been with Arsenal since the start of his youth career in 2001.  Currently out of commission due to a foot injury, he is looking to return to training by December.

Him transferring to Real Madrid, however, would come as another blow to Gunners manager Arsene Wenger, who earlier this season had suffered the loss of significant players like Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Wilshere came to the aid of Wenger, describing the criticism as ‘a joke.’

‘It was harsh, though, especially on the boss,’ Wilshere had told the press early last month.  ‘He has been there for 15 years and has been great for Arsenal.  The criticism that Arsene gets is just a joke.

‘We have started a bit slowly but we still feel we can finish in the top four.’

It was also during this time that he pledged loyalty to Arsenal, describing it as the place where he belonged.

‘Arsenal is the perfect home for me right now,’ he had said.  ‘Some players have got their price but, to be honest, that’s not the way I look at the game.’

The Gunners’ Premier League performance has recently been experiencing notable improvement, featuring a still-unbroken 4-game winning streak.

Overall, their last 11 games have brought 9 wins, 1 draw and only 1 loss.
