Real Madrid are the best in the world – Pepe

Currently savouring a second-place La Liga table position that puts them ahead of Barcelona, Real Madrid defender Pepe recently declared his squad as the world’s best.

After being locked in an intense, rabid rivalry with the Catalans, Real Madrid’s consistent performance in the domestic league have put them one point ahead of Barcelona.

Their lead came after Pep Guardiola’s squad acquired a scoreless tie that deprived them of 2 precious points.

According to Pepe, the current table setup is proof that Real Madrid have now bested Barcelona as the league’s greatest team.

‘We have a very strong squad and our forwards are proving that they are the best because we are the best team in the world,’ bragged Pepe, whose team still trail first-placers Levante by one point.

‘I hope that they continue like this and that we can go on and win many trophies,’ he continued, as quoted on skysports.com.

Pepe added that age has perhaps contributed to their performance, allowing them to perform at top calibre.

‘The young age of our defenders can do so much for Real Madrid,’ he said.  ‘This may turn into one of the best defensive lines the club has had.’

With Barcelona still trailing close behind, Real’s challenge in order to justify Pepe’s brave statements is to topple Levante off the top of the table.  Currently they are within striking distance, trailing only one point – the same distance of their lead from Barcelona.

‘The plan is to continue as we are doing and picking up points,’ explained assistant coach Aitor Karanka.  ‘We are working towards finding our best form and there are still things to improve upon.’

Karanka addressed Levante as the greatest team in the La Liga at the moment, throwing water on Pepe’s fearless statements.

‘The best so far are Levante and they deserve to be because they’re playing at a very high level,’ said the assistant coach as quoted on the club’s official website.

In comparison, Levante remain unbeaten since the opening of the current season, following their first two games (both draws) with an impressive, yet-to-be-broken string of seven wins.

Madrid, in the meantime, currently have 1 draw, 1 loss and 7 wins.

Barcelona, although unbeaten in the Primera Liga, have obtained a total of 3 draws and only 6 wins.
