QPR ready to offer Becks contract

SEE you at Queens Park Rangers in November, Becks!

Barring any hitches, David Beckham will be donning the QPR colours by that month.

The Hoops’ co-owner Amit Bathia on Wednesday confirmed of the club’s intention to offer Beckham a playing contract and make him their next big-name signing.

QPR owner Tony Fernandes is also eager to sign up Beckham, whose deal with US Major League Soccer team LA Galaxy will expire in November.

Bhatia had earlier denied their interest to snare Beckham, telling West London Sport that it is all hearsay, but has changed his tunes.

“Would we be prepared to offer him (Beckham) a chance to play for QPR? The answer to that question is `yes,’ we would be willing to make him an offer,’’ he said.

Bhatia said he has already discussed the matter with Fernandes and that they are “ready to throw the hat into the ring for someone like him.’’

He added the decision now rests on Beckham: “It’s up to him, or any other payer of that calibre, to decide whether he wants to join QPR.’’

Beckham, 36, has so far refused to extend his stay in the MLS, fuelling speculations of a move to the Loftus Road outfit.

The former England skipper and Manchester United midfielder is said to be looking for an acceptable location that could provide him first-team football and answer his sizeable price tag, and indications showed QPR could be a worthy option.

Since Fernandes took over as top owner, QPR have spent huge amounts to sign up Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Anton Ferdinand to bolster their roster.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
If Beckham says `yes’ to the offer, can QPR really benefit from his presence? Becks is said to be past his prime and the style of play in the Premier League is entirely different from the MLS. Can he still withstand the rigours and rough physical plays? That remains to be seen.
