DAVID Beckham is no longer an option at Queens Park Rangers.
This shaped up as QPR boss Neil Warnock on Sunday said he has given up hopes of signing up the veteran midfielder.
“No I can’t see that,’’ replied Warnock when asked if Beckham was still an option. “We’re not there yet. We’re a team in the making. We’ve some very important signings to make in January which we are looking at now, working on, to give us that push towards the end of the season.’’
QPR had earlier insinuated that they are planning to acquire Beckham when his contract with the LA Galaxy expires.
With the US Major League Soccer season ending on Sunday and Beckham’s team battling Dynamo Houston in the final, a bunch of teams are also bidding to snare the 36-year-old player former England and Manchester United captain. Among them are Tottenham Hotspur, Paris St. Germain and even Mexican side Xoloitzcuintles Tijuana.
The Rangers’ new owner, Malaysian tycoon Tony Fernandes, had earlier hoped they could offer Beckham a new home once the January transfer window reopens but Warnock said it would no longer happen.
Warnock was in Abu Dhabi on Sunday attending the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the company of players Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jay Bothroyd and Heidar Helguson. They were guests of the Fernandes-owned Team Lotus
The QPR manager said he has nothing against Beckham, saying he likes the latter for being down to earth but said: “In our case, at the moment we have very good players in those areas, and we’re looking to strengthen other areas.’’
Warnock also said that Fernandes could face pressure in making the right decisions in signing the right players come January.
“He’s given me 24/7 to look at since I’ve met him,’’ Warnock said in jest.
Warnock also praised Fernandes for being supportive. “He listens to what I have to say.’’
QPR are girding for a crucial stage in their campaign in the Premier League this season as they take on Stoke Norwich and West Brom over the next three weeks.

OPINION: Why QPR have already given up on Beckham remains a puzzle. Fernandes should spend his money wisely in netting players come January. May luck be with the Rangers in their next targets.
