ALL speculations.
That was how Brazilian sensation Neymar described his rumoured transfer to either Spanish giants Real Madrid or English powerhouse Chelsea. He also dismissed having made a deal with Barcelona.
“I have been sold like 30 times,’’ the Brazilian sports journal Lancenet quoted him as saying on Monday.
Neymar stressed there is no truth to those claims because “I am a player of Santos and I will stay here to play at the club’s centenary season in 2012.’’
The 19-year-old striker, whose full name is Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, clarified that his agent is his father and any decision to transfer would be a family decision.
Already capped 12 time for Brazil, Neymar said: “The final word was always been for me and my father. You know very well that my father takes care of my career. He takes care of everything and nothing has changed.’’
Neymar added said he is happy with Santos and that it is the club where he wants to be.
By pledging allegiance to Santos, Neymar will play with the team in FIFA’s Club World Cup in December in a tournament where Barcelona is also competing. Santos made it to the meet after ruling the Copa Libertadores where Neymar played a major role.
On Tuesday, Neymar was reported have agreed to a 53-million pound transfer to Real Madrid that would make him the fourth most expensive player of all time.
Speculations about the move rose when Madrid reportedly sent a doctor to Brazil to give Neymar a medical. He denied any deal between him and the Spanish outfit.
It was also reported that he had undergone his medical in San Paolo ahead of the planned January move to Madrid but he said he went to the hospital to solve a personal problem.
Chelsea is a said to be targeting Neymar, too. The Blues have been chasing him for 18 months, even dangling a 25-million pound deal that was rejected last August.
Neymar is hyped as a future Brazil star and is tipped to lead Brazil during the 2014 World Cup on home soil.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
In case he transfers to either Real Madrid or Chelsea, Neymar will have a lot of adjusting to do. The style of playing in the La Liga and Premier League is entirely different from the Brazilian league. He has a pricey tag so we will be finding out if he can live up to expectations once he relocates.
Chelsea have no immediate plans of appointing a permanent club manager, despite the increasing pressure to hand the position to caretaker Roberto Di Matteo.
