Newcastle owner strips to everyone’s delight

FOR most football fans, team owners are supposed to be in their best behaviour when exposed to public view.

But in case of Newcastle United bossman Mike Ashley, it’s anything goes when he is in the mood to have fun.

Known more as a private person who rarely gives interviews and seldoms socialises, the 48-year-old tycoon was spotted in a Chinese restaurant recently as he stripped to his underpants and gyrated to some sexy beat.

The scene was in stark contrast to his cavernous Hertfordshire mansion where he apparently lives alone. In his latest escapade, he let his inhibitions out as he danced to “You Can Leave Your Hat On’’ which Tom Jones sang in the soundtrack of the 1997 British film “The Full Monty.’’

We can’t fault the man for his stripping to his undies as the ditty also made waves when Joe Cocker belted itin the 1986 movie “9 1/2 Weeks’’ during the striptease scene.’

Once worth about 1.9 billion pounds, Ashley grabbed the spotlight at a karaoke session during a birthday party for one of his Sports Direct staff.

Yells of “More’’ and  “Get ‘em off Mikey’’ reverberated around the pub as he undressed and everyone went wild when the DJ started playing the song. One kibitzer said: “Mikey was in great form’’ as attendees danced to their hearts’ content.

After downing a few pints, Ashley had no second thoughts about stripping, even leading the applause and cheering of the crowd among them roly-poly, sweaty and bare-chested middle-aged chaps.

He even put his leather belt across his back and at one time even flagellated himself. He also allowed a girl to run her hands over his chest.

The merriment, which lasted till 5 a.m. near the Sports Direct headquarters in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, was fittingly capped with the obviously-satisfied Ashley paying the 2,000-pound bill in cash.

No matter how much maligned Ashley is or how those scenes gave some thoughts of how he stripped Newcastle United bare of any talented players, he showed he is just a human wanting to have a real good time.
