Mourinho unsettled with Real Madrid’s form

Real Madrid’s second winless La Liga match on the road has had manager Jose Mourinho worried about further point drops.

The squad’s uninspired recent 0-0 draw against Racing Santander followed a 1-0 road defeat against Levante, leaving Madrid at 7th place in the La Liga table.

‘We’ve dropped five points in two away games and that is worrisome,’ fretted the manager.  ‘But it’s less worrying to draw a match in which you’re the only side that tries to play and win.’

Madrid’s two last matches on the road have left them a pale shadow of the squad that blasted through their first away game this season, leaving Real Zaragoza with an 0-6 thrashing.

Outside the La Liga, Madrid have tallied one away goal via their 0-1 Champions League win against Dinamo Zagreb.

‘We’ve scored one goal in our last three games,’ Mourinho told reporters.  ‘We must return to normality by scoring and winning on Saturday [at home against Rayo Vallecano].’

Further point drops could compromise Madrid’s bid to claim the top spot away from bitter rivals Barcelona, who have also dropped four points on the road.

‘Our main reference in terms of fighting for the title is Barcelona and if they win tonight they’ll have a three-point cushion over us, not a 30-point lead.’

The game featured sub-par performances from star players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, who played with an injured ankle.

‘In the first half we did not play well but in the second session, we were all over our opponent’s midfield,’ said Mourinho.  ‘And though we did not create many chances, we were absolutely dominant in the last 30 minutes.’

Mourinho was also left to point out that their performance in this game was better than the previous one.

‘Our concentration was better tonight than it was on Sunday,’ he said.  ‘I have a different overall feeling about the game.’

AUTHOR’S OPINION
Before the tiff with Santander, Real Madrid have not tied on the road since February. And before the match with Levante, they have not lost since January. However there might be no need for alarm at the moment, considering the 2 road games producing 1 draw and 1 loss early this year. This is not new, and is therefore in no way a massive setback. Real Madrid will bounce back.
