Jose Mourinho, known to be the highest-paid coach in football, rejected an offer equalling £43 million for his management of a Russian club.

The offer was presented to the Real Madrid manager by Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, known for recently acquiring Samuel Eto’o and making him the world’s highest-paid football player with €20million net per season.

The amount makes Eto’o the highest-paid football player in the world, surpassing Crisitano Ronaldo (about €12M) and Lionel Messi (about €10.5M).

Mourinho’s rejection of the offer was reportedly fuelled by a desire to get Real Madrid back on top of both the La Liga and the Champions League.  The previous season saw Madrid falling short of victory and instead watching intense rivals Barcelona achieve domination in the two competitions.

The club had reportedly begun to lure Mourinho early on in the year, as the manager found his La Liga career put into question due to transfer policy conflicts.

Reports indicate that Anzhi, under the new management of billionaire Suleyman Kerimov, are currently aiming to

Reports indicate that Mourinho’s name is just one of a number of high-profile names that Anzhi are eyeing to acquire in exchange for staggering amounts.

Owned by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov, the club had successfully acquired the likes of Roberto Carlos (Corinthians) for €10m, and Yuri Zhirkov (Chelsea) for approximately €15m.

Kerimov’s business – an empire with stakes in gold and silver mining, banking, and oil production – is reportedly worth £4.9 billion, placing him on the 188th spot of Forbes Magazine’s list of the world’s richest people.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
There’s nothing more admirable than a captain loyal to his team no matter what. But this is Mourinho, a man who does not think twice about thrusting his finger in another man’s eye. Forget the sappy sentiments, and forget his achievements: sending this tosser off would only benefit the La Liga.
