Marseille striker Loic Remy isn’t leaving anytime soon despite being scouted by one of England’s top teams, Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports stated that Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp sacrificed time for rest and recreation to fly to Marseille and personally watch the £20-million prospect play.
“We’ve had reports about him so I thought I’d better have a look at him – though I could be having a round of golf,” said Redknapp.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t look to mean anything as the French striker stated that he will honour his contract at the French club.
The 25-year-old Lyon native said, “I’m staying. I will 100 per cent stay at Marseille until the end of the season and even the end of my contract.”
“I have spoken with the president and the staff. And it would not be right for me to leave this club,” he continued.
“We’ll see next summer but that’s not even in my head for now,” Remy said barely hinting any interest to leave his current outfit.
Sources said that Tottenham has had Remy in their watch list for 18 months and while this breaks their deal to sign him in the transfer window, they still are likely to attempt a deal during the summer.
Remy has had two outstanding seasons with Marseille, scoring 15 goals in 31 appearances last season while netting seven in 18 matches this time.
It comes as no surprise that Tottenham want him to bolster the club’s chances to challenge for the title. Adding a player compared to have the skills and work rate of French striking legend Thierry Henry is too pretty to pass-up.
Marseille are currently 6th in the League One table and are in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League – battling APOEL.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
OPINION: For a young professional, Remy sure knows how to honour his club. It only shows that he really wants to help bring Marseille glory. His loyalty should spread to other players – where money talks and transfers depend on the money that is being offered. When he finally decides to leave Marseille, there will be nothing but good things to be said about the lad.
