Maradona: Mancini could blow title race

Football legend Diego Maradona recently commented that Roberto Mancini’s coaching style could deprive Manchester City of the Premier League title.

According to Maradona, currently the manager of Dubai squad Al-Wasl, the City manager lacks the aggressiveness needed to maintain their current lead and eventually secure the coveted EPL cup.

He also observed that the squad’s performance since their magnificent start this season has gone lukewarm.

With 13 games left in the Premier League season, City’s goal records are glowing with 64 total goals made – the highest in the league – and conceding only 19 – the lowest of all teams.

“My heart says Manchester City,” said Maradona, who incidentally is the father-in-law of City striker Sergio Aguero.  “But I believe Mancini with all the players he’s got, is not daring enough.

“He’s a bit too defensive.  Maybe because he’s Italian.”

The 51-year old added to his criticism by comparing City to their bitter rivals and current EPL runners-up Manchester United, whom he described as having the kind of aggressiveness needed in the competition.

“As an organisation, and with their style of play, I think United are more aggressive.  But I have to support one team, I’ll be a fan for my son-in-law.”

Maradona continued to say that although he thought Aguero would have been great had he remained at Atletico Madrid, he commended the striker for his decision to move to the English squad last summer.

“I think today, watching from my home in Dubai, seeing Aguero in Madrid would make for much more interesting matches than Kun Aguero at Manchester City,” he told Sport360.

“I talked to the president of Atletico Madrid and I told him that Aguero had amazing potential, and that he should surround him with good players so that Atletico could make history with him.

“As you know he did not listen to me.  He didn’t listen.  He sold Kun and I, as his father-in-law, think he chose well.”
