MANCHESTER City manager Roberto Mancini ruled out any possibility of letting controversial striker Carlos Tevez walk out of the Etihad Stadium on a loan agreement with AC Milan.
His statements came right before City are set to meet and negotiate with AC Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani this Thursday.
According to Mancini, despite the line of controversies brought about by Tevez, his intention is to have the striker, who is currently on an unsanctioned vacation in Argentina, to return to the squad. If anything, a deal for a sale is the only thing remotely considerable.
‘We want Carlos to come back and play football and the best solution for us is to sell him,’ Mancini said. ‘We can’t let him leave on loan.’
The manager added that agreeing to the terms AC Milan are prepared to offer might set the unacceptable standard for their future sales plans.
‘When we want to sell them, they have to go on loan. This is not good,’ said Mancini. ‘It is not correct for the other players.
‘Manchester City paid Carlos a lot of money for three years,’ he continued. ‘It is correct that if one club, it could be Milan, Juventus, PSG, Inter, want him, they pay Carlos for his value. This is correct.’
The scheduled meeting between the two clubs will most probably see either side remaining immovable and unwavering in their stance.
‘We’re not going to take him outright, we’re offering a free loan with the right to buy in June,’ said Galliani.
AC Milan’s chances of acquiring Tevez via sale outright are barred by City’s asking price of £25 million, an amount they cannot match.
As for the striker himself, finding a new squad would extract him from the ongoing controversy particularly between him and Mancini.
What began with Tevez refusing to play as a substitute grew into an all-out case that had the striker being fined two weeks’ wages.
Following that was the striker missing practice and then flying to Argentina without permission.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Gut feel is suggesting that this is a deal that will fall through. Neither side will be willing to compromise, because the possible compromise terms are not something they can afford. Tevez stays with City, and maybe AC Milan are given a chance to go back to the drawing board.
