MANCHESTER City manager Roberto Mancini recently hinted that exiled striker Carlos Tevez would be welcome to return to the club for training.
Tevez who remains in Argentina on an unsanctioned trip, has been at extreme odds with City, especially Mancini since he refused to play as a substitute in a crucial match against Bayern Munich.
Since then his relationship with the club has gone frosty, despite earlier attempts by Mancini to perhaps repair the damage.
His departure to Argentina was seen as the last straw for the club, who opened up the floor to possible bidders for the striker.
When asked recently, however, Mancini stated that he was still hoping to see Tevez return.
“I don’t know,” said the manager regarding a possible reunion with Tevez. “I hope so, yes. I don’t have any problem and the club doesn’t. Carlos knows the situation.
Tevez’s absence from the club has not gone over quietly, with the striker being fined £1.2 million for gross misconduct, plus about £10 million in lost wages, fines, and withheld bonuses.
At present, City sit on the top of the Premier League table, two points clear of runners-up Manchester United.
Regarding the current challenge to remain at the top of the table, Mancini admitted that having Tevez back might help them secure the needed number of wins to emerge Premier League champions by season’s end.
“Everyone knows that Tevez is a top player and it probably would have been better for us if he’d been here.
“Carlos can change a lot of games. If he comes back next week, maybe he can help us in the last three months.”
“We are here – we did not change city in this three months – and Carlos knows he is a City player.”
The manager added that although mending fences with Tevez was something he was definitely willing to consider, he added that the proper decorum must still be observed.
He wants an apology.
“This is normal and after Carlos can train and can play if his condition is good. Always, I forgive all people.”
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Good of Mancini, offering up another olive branch. The question is whether or not Tevez will take his statements and actually come back, or be proud and not even react. Honestly, whether he comes back or not, it seems City are doing well and maybe could even do without him.
