NONE whatsoever.
That was the curt reply David Beckham gave when asked if managing a team someday is of interest to him.
The former England captain told the Melbourne Herald Sun on Monday that he had no ambitions to manage one in the future.
Beckham was in Melbourne, Australia for what may be his last match as a Los Angeles Galaxy player. The team headed Down Under after playing exhibition games earlier in Indonesia and the Philippines as part of their Southeast Asian tour.
He did not play in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa because of injury but joined England nevertheless as part of the squad’s back-room staff.
Beckham admitted he did not like his stint at the sidelines where he acted as mediator between players and the management.
“I don’t know how managers and coaches do it. I love working with kids and coaching kids, but being a manager is one of those things that has never interested me,’’ he said.
He added though that he enjoyed being part of the whole experience at South Africa “but being on the sidelines was difficult.’’
The 36-year-old midfielder’s contract with the Galaxy is expiring on December 31 and he is believed to be weighing his options to play in France for Paris Saint-Germain or stay in the United States.
Other offers are also being presented to him but Beckham has previously ruled out a return to England, stating he wants to play only for Manchester United where he once saw action as captain.
“I’ve had other offers, which is nice, especially when you’re 36, some people would say towards the end of my career,’’ he said.
Beckham stressed he is still a Galaxy player “and that might not change,’’ adding he would make a decision in the next few weeks.
“I need to take some down time and decide what I need to do next,’’ he said.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Beckham could finally decide to stay with the Galaxy. He’ll probably give it another try in the Major League Soccer before relocating, or probably hanging his boots for good.
