Man City launches cancer email investigation

An official inquiry by Manchester City officials has been launched to investigate claims that chief executive Garry Cook sent an email to the cancer-stricken mother of defender Nedum Onuoha mocking her condition.

According to reports, Dr. Anthonia Onuoha received an email, indicated to have been sent by Cook, ridiculing her currently ongoing fight against cancer.  Responding to the allegations, Cook claimed that he had not sent the email and that his account, integrated into his personal mobile device, had been hacked into.

An official statement from the club confirmed that an investigation has been launched to further look into the matter.

‘Following allegations made to the football club by Dr. Anthonia Onuoha, subsequently reported in today’s media, the club can confirm that a board-led review has been launched into the matter,’ read the statement.

Dr. Onuoha, who also represented her son, was said to have emailed football administrator Brian Marwood stating that while her body was ‘ravaged with cancer and ongoing chemotherapy,’ she was still capable of dealing with the club on her son’s behalf.

She then received a reply, the one allegedly sent by Cook, addressed to Marwood.  The message read ‘Ravaged with it!!……I don’t know how you sleep at night.  You used to be such a nice man when I worked with you at Nike. G’

Onuoha was reportedly shocked after reading the email, saying ‘it was the worst day of my life, even worse than being diagnosed with cancer.

‘I couldn’t understand how anyone could behave like that.  I’m critically ill,’ she stated.  ‘I cried and cried for hours.’

Cook apologised for the incident but denied any involvement in the matter.

‘I cannot and will not condone this unacceptable behaviour,’ he reportedly told Dr. Onuoha.  ‘Brian did not receive this email and disciplinary action is under way regarding one of our employees.’

Despite Onuoha’s requests, both the Football Association and the Premier League have reportedly refused to take part in the matter.

‘The feeling of humiliation persists,’ she told reporters.  ‘Now I just want the FA and the Premier League to see what’s happened and to take the appropriate action.  Treating people like this is completely abominable.’

The investigation was marred by the absence of Cook, who is presently in Portland to visit his family.
