Liverpool will only get stronger – Kuyt

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt recently sent a message to league rivals warning them that his squad will only move upwards in terms of performance and competitiveness.

The Dutch player stated that the Reds’ will pose more threatening in the near future due to the contribution of its two biggest stars Luis Suarez and recently-returned Steven Gerrard.

Although Suarez has already proven himself as a team hero, Kuyt insisted that the striker will further improve and is on his way to become one of Liverpool’s future legends.

As for Gerrard, Kuyt sees his return from a six-month hiatus as a factor that will greatly increase his hunger and passion for the game and for the club.  His rejuvenated spirit will be a great factor to the team’s hunt for silverware in the months and years to come.

The skipper’s return had produced a line of questions, including whether or not he would be able to return to top form and mesh well with a club that has virtually restructured its midfield since his absence.

Despite the doubts, Gerrard – branded as the team’s talisman – has remained a significant figure that produces inspiration for the other members, as well as lethal intimidation to opponents.

‘He is very important to this club, and can really lift us,’ Kuyt said.  ‘I can assure you that when he is back to his best he will be as influential as ever, because you can see his determination in training.’

As for Suarez, Kuyt believes that the Uruguayan has done a top job of contributing to the club despite coming from a different culture of football.

Also coming to Anfield from a foreign club (Feyenoord), Kuyt reminded of Suarez’ ‘very big step’ of coming to Merseyside, forcing him to face the challenge of finding success in a league with a different type of footballing style.

The Dutch player remained unwavering of his faith in the Uruguayan, insisting that Suarez will only move up and become more lethal than he already has become.

‘He has done brilliantly from the very beginning, and he has become a very important player for Liverpool,’ said Kuyt of Suarez.  ‘But it is my belief he will be even better in the future.’

He furthered, insisting that the attacker’s young age is an asset, providing enough time to fully settle into the club and excel.

The Reds are coming from a 0-2 victory against Everton in Goodison Park, with Suarez and Andy Carroll netting one goal each.

The game also saw Gerrard rocket a shot that was deflected by defender Phil Jagielka, barring the skipper from what would have been his first goal since his return.

The Reds’ win shot them to the 4th spot, until being shoved down to 5th by Newcastle’s win.  They are next set to meet League leaders Manchester United at Anfield on 15 October.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
Although their future as League leaders remains in question, there is no doubt of Liverpool’s bright future. With Suarez remaining as lethal as he is, Carroll showing hints of his top form, and Gerrard slowly reinstating his leadership skills, the Reds may become the squad every team is ordered to keep an eye on.
