Less fans for Liverpool in Man United trip

Liverpool fans who wish to watch the Reds’ Premier League battle at Old Trafford against Manchester United on 11 February are going to have a hard time getting tickets as reports said that the ticket allocation has been cut down to almost a third.

The match will be the first time Luis Suarez will come to Manchester after serving an eight-match ban for being found guilty of verbally abusing Red Devils defender Patrice Evra.

An incident that occurred in their October meeting at Liverpool made the bitter rivalry between the two clubs more intense.

Suarez is expected to receive a very negative reception from the United faithful and adding to it is that only 2,100 Reds fans can watch the match live – 1,000 less than originally given.

This number is around a third of the number of fans that were present during the fourth round FA Cup battle last Saturday between the two teams at Anfield where Liverpool beat United 2-1. There were around 6,000 fans at Anfield to support the Red Devils at the time.

In their reverse fixture last October, Manchester United fans’ allocation was cut from 3,015 to 1,965 after safety officials discovered some supporters stationing themselves on aisles and gangways.

“The safety of all fans is paramount and a detailed risk assessment of the match carried out by Manchester United and agreed by their Safety Advisory Group which includes Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council has resulted in Liverpool receiving a reduced allocation for this specific game,” claimed a statement in liverpoolfc.tv.

“This was considered necessary to allow for additional stewarding and segregation plans.”
