NO, Blackburn are not putting Chris Samba up for sale.
Blackburn boss Steve Kean told that to teams wanting to acquire the defender on Thursday.
To back up his claim Kean, said the Rovers have already confirmed of the rejection they made to a couple of offers for their captain.
Tottenham Hotspur were the latest outfit who tried to lure Samba by putting up a £7.5-million offer, bettering the £7 milllion earlier tendered by Queens Park Rangers.
French side Paris Saint-Germain are said to be eyeing Samba, too.
Interest on Samba heightened a day after the French-born player was quoted in the French daily L’Equipe as saying that his club “doesn’t evolve at all.’’
Samba was also quoted by the paper to be saying “things have not gone as I was told’’ and that he feels it is “time for a change.’’
Blackburn are currently mired at the bottom of the Premier League table.
But Kean said he has not read the article although he was told that Samba has been interviewed by the publication.
As he tried to parry the topic, Kean emphasised there were two bids from one clubs which were refused.
“We put out a club statement which was quite strong, saying that Chris was not for sale and as far as I am concerned, there is a line drawn under it,’’ said Kean as he spoke ahead of Blackburn’s fixture against Fulham at Ewood Park on Saturday.
Samba has been with the Rovers since 2007 and signed a new contract last February that would make him stay with the team until 2015, and Kean said he wants his player to respect that deal.
“You would have ask Chris what he thinks, in terms of whether promises have been broken in his opinion and what they were,’’ added Kean.
The Rovers boss said he hopes Samba stays with them. “All I can say is that he has been excellent when he has played, he is a big player for us.’’
Samba could feature in their game against the Cottagers after sitting out their FA Cup loss at Newcastle United due to an ankle and hamstring trouble.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Blackburn are relegation-bound and we see a discontented Samba moving to another team. He’ll get the “life’’ he wants from another outfit. Good for him if he links up with the Spurs who are in good position to fight for the top plum.
