Inter Milan confirm Tevez bid

Internazionale Milano have confirmed having their eye on Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez, and have reportedly bid for a loan till season’s end, followed by a guarantee to purchase for £20.6 million plus bonuses.  The entire amount adds up to £25 million.

This bid puts Inter Milan in the race to acquire the striker, with city rivals AC Milan also attempting to secure a deal with City.  At the moment, the latter have sat down for negotiations and are said to be leading the race to acquire the 27-year old.

However the Serie A outfit are yet to come up with an acceptable offer to City, who refuse to consider the current bid of a loan with an option to buy.  At the moment, Inter’s bid for Tevez falls closer to City’s preferred terms.

Inter president Massimo Moratti confirmed the club’s interest, stating that at the moment it’s about getting a feel for the situation and trying to come up with a possible strategy.

“We don’t do anything for fun,” he said.  “If we do something it’s because we think it could be a good deal.”

“We were interested in finding out how things stood with Tevez, if there was any room for manoeuvre.  We’ll see if we’re successful, if we can bring him here or not.

“We’ve acquired information on how things are going, there’s no room to act, we’ll see if we can do it or not,” Moratti continued.  “There are still three weeks left.  It’s not about being optimistic but rather seeing how things are.”

The willingness to wait it out is not reciprocated by City manager Roberto Mancini who, with his plans to raise funds for additional signings, is eager to finalise a deal.  Already without Tevez, who is yet to return from his unsanctioned Argentina trip, the squad is already suffering with a string of suspensions and injuries.

They are also currently without Yaya and Kolo Toure, who left for the Africa Cup of Nations.

“I hope there will be a good result for [Tevez] in January because he has not played for three months,” said Mancini.

“I know that there is Inter maybe that is interested because I read the newspapers, and [AC] Milan the same but I don’t know the last news.”

Mancini’s relationship with Tevez remains strained ever since the striker refused to play as a substitute in a crucial match against Bayern Munich in a Champions League playoff.
