Injured Wilshere out 2-3 more months

ARSENAL fans awaiting Jack Wilshere’s return to competition would still have to wait for 2 or 3 more months.

The 19-year-old midfielder confirmed that he is still beset by an ankle injury and needs more time to get back in playing shape.

He has been on the sidelines after incurring the injury during Arsenal’s preseason tour and his absence has continued to affect the Gunners’ playmaking in the Premier League.

But the England international allayed fears that he would be out for along as he said on his Twitter account on Sunday that he is working hard on the gym to stay fit. “I am gutted by I will be back stronger.’’

His right leg is still in protective boot and he could be back to light training by October.

Arsenal medical staff said that if he fails to recover, they may need to insert a metal screw which would keep him out until early December.

“I’m just taking my time and getting ready,’’ added Wilshere who admits he finds just watching games difficult. “It’s massively frustrating.’’

With his latest condition, Wilshere will miss England’s final European Championships qualifying tussle at Montenegro on October 7. He will be out, too, for the start of the Gunners’ Champions League campaign.

Theo Walcott, his Arsenal and England teammate, said he hopes Wilshere could be back sooner than anticipated.

“Jack’s a very important player for us,’’ Walcott said during an England press conference recently.”We’re going to miss him but he’s professional enough to get on with it.’’

Arsenal have notched only 1 point from their first three matches.

The exits of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri weakened the Gunners’ midfield and although they signed Mikel Arteta and Yossi Benayoun, Wilshere’s absence is expected to add to the woes of under-pressure boss Arsene Wenger.
