I would have liked to join United instead – Nasri

Samir Nasri, set to join the ranks of Manchester City, was reported to have recently said that his preferred destination after leaving Arsenal was Manchester United.

According to the 24-year old midfielder set to sign a £22 million deal with City, United is still the top team in the country.

Reports indicate that there were proceedings opened for Nasri to join United, except Sir Alex Ferguson did not express keen interest. The same attitude came from Real Madrid and Barcelona, Nasri’s two other options.

With this, Manchester City was left as Nasri’s last option.

Despite being denied his ideal turnout, the midfielder insisted that he was happy to join the outfit, pegging them to offer him better chances at silverware than Arsenal.

Nasri’s signing with City secures him a five-year contract, not to mention the possibility of taking in £180,000 in weekly wages – double the amount that Arsenal was prepared to offer.

A few complications, however, stand in the way towards finalising the midfielder’s formal signing, the latest including the payment of fees to agents involved in the transaction.

For Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, losing Nasri is currently only one of many frustrations, together with his two other players Alex Song and Gervinho’s three-match ban.

The suspensions were handed by the Football Association after the two exhibited violent conduct against match rivals Newcastle United last Saturday.
