Hughes wants more talks with QPR execs

IS Mark Hughes playing hard-to-get?

A day after Queens Park Rangers expressed their intention to have him as their new coach, Hughes said there are still more talks to be done to confirm it.

And with that, the former Wales, Manchester City, Blackburn and Fulham manager met QPR executives on Monday to discuss the new assignment.

Hughes was tipped to replace the axed Neil Warnock after QPR bosses felt their future in the Premier league is in danger as the points have been hard to come by recently.

Accompanied by his adviser Kia Joorabchian, Hughes said nothing is confirmed yet although he pointed out it is an interesting project.

“There is a lot more to discuss,’’ he said.”We are still discussing the ideas the club have and I have got to think very carefully about what has been said overnight and come back in the morning.’’

Hughes, 48, has been unemployed since resigning as Fulham coach at the end of last term.

Also a former Manchester United, Barcelona and Chelsea striker, Hughes added he has to arrive at the right decision before finally accepting the QPR offer.

Parrying criticisms that he may be dilly-dallying, Hughes said: “I am an ambitious manager and, hopefully, over the next year and a half the club will match the ambitions I have.’’

QPR chief executive Philip Beard confirmed that there are indeed some works to be done as he stressed that Hughes is the person and the “sort of experience’’ they need at the club.

“I hope fans will be excited by what we are trying to achieve at the club. I hope they will think that mark is the right person,’’ Beard told mediamen at Loftus Road.

The west London club’s main goal to hire Hughes is to keep them in the Premier League. They have lost six of their last eight league games and are in 17th place, just a point above the relegation zone. They are in the league this season after being absent for 15 years.

It is expected that when the talks are over, QPR owner Tony Fernandes, will officially appoint Warnock before the Hoops fixture at Newcastle United.

Aside from Hughes, others also linked with the job were Gianfranco Zola, Rafael Benitez, Roberto Di Matteo Sven Goran Eriksson and Steve Bruce.

Is Hughes really the right man to steer QPR into the right direction in the league? He is also linked with Joorabchian so does it mean Carlos Tevez is also included in the talks? If that’s the case, QPR could be in for more trouble. We hope Fernandes and company decided correctly.
