Henry open to third spell at Arsenal

French striker Thierry Henry – currently on loan to Arsenal from MLS outfit New York Red Bulls – refused to close the doors on another possible comeback the Emirates if asked.

If pursued, it will be three separate occasions where he wears the Gunners kit.

Henry, who scored the winner in a 2-1 victory against Sunderland, returns to the United States after Wednesday’s tie against AC Milan in the Champions League’s last-16 leg.

“If Arsenal need some help one day I will be around,” the 34 year old said.

Sunderland opened the scoring in the 70th minute after a James McClean strike. He was able to get the ball from the fallen Per Mertesacker who suffered an ankle injury during the play.

Substitute Aaron Ramsey equalised 5 minutes after by shooting from just outside the penalty box to hit the post and bounce into the net.

The winner came in injury time as Russian Andrey Arshavin fired a cross from the left side of the pitch that caught the right boot of Henry to redirect inside the net.

“When you come on as substitute you want to help your team and change the game,” said Henry.

“The guy who scores gets the credit but the cross from Andrey Arshavin was perfect.”

The Arsenal record goal-scorer has found the net three times in six appearances, started off by a goal against Leeds in his second debut with the outfit.

When asked about the Sunderland game being his last for the Gunners, Henry replied, “You can never say never.

“I felt just like a kid who scores his first goal for the team he loves.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s comments fell in line with his star striker.

“We will see next year. Maybe he might want to stop at some stage as well?

“It’s a shame that a player of that quality is not in England or in Europe.

“I hope he will add some more [goals] in the Champions League on Wednesday. Certainly he got us the three points in a very difficult game.”

Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill also shared his thoughts on Henry, saying: “He has been a terrific player in his time here – and he hasn’t done too badly second time around as well.”
