Real Betis found themselves suffering their first loss of the season in the hands of Getafe.
After enjoying a four-win streak in the Spanish Primera Liga, the current table leaders ended their match with a 1-0 loss at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
The only goal of the match was one from Getafe midfielder Diego Castro, who caught a cross from Juan Valera at the 31st minute. The goal was Castro’s first since his transfer from Sporting Gijon.
It was also the goal that brought Getafe their first win of the season.
The lowly Getafe controlled the game during the first half, with Diego Castro and Pedro Leon playing key parts. The squad’s performance would pay off with what would be their first goal in three games.
‘Diego Castro is a player that has it in him to do great things,’ Getafe manager Luis Garcia told reporters. ‘He is very talented and gives us a lot of options. I congratulate my players for handling the pressure they were under.’
Despite the loss, Real Betis remain in first place with 12 points – one over defending champions and close trailers Barcelona. Levante and Sevilla follow, also with 11 points.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
After some time one would realize that Torres has gone from irritating to humiliating to pitiful. But at this point in time, no one is waiting for him to admit to his horrid performance. They’re waiting for goals. The question is how much patience his seemingly loyal fans would be willing to give. At this juncture, it’s step up or leave.
