Fernando Torres admits Chelsea struggle

After months of underperformance and a recent missed goal, Fernando Torres has stepped up to the media and verbally admitted struggling at Chelsea.

‘The first six months for me at Chelsea have been very difficult,’ admitted Torres.

The striker furthered, stating that despite the hardship he has been incredibly grateful for the unending support from fans.

‘I have been struggling but I have always had the support of the fans,’ he stated.  ‘From the first day until now, every time I talk with them on the street, in the cafe, everywhere, I can feel the support they are giving me.’

As of this writing, Torres – acquired from Liverpool last season for a whopping £50 million – has scored only three goals.

‘When you are doing great and scoring goals from the first day it is easy for the fans to love you but the first months for me have been very, very difficult.’

Torres’ last Premier league match against Swansea saw the striker both hit his third goal, and get sent off the field after lunching on Mark Gower.

The incident resulted in Torres’ three-game suspension.  The striker however adamantly insisted that he had no ill will or intention to hurt Gower.

‘Obviously I didn’t want to do anything bad against the other player,’ he said.  ‘I tried to take away my legs but I arrived late to the ball and I kicked him a little bit.’

Recalling the incident, the Spaniard stated that it was his most serious offence as a Premier League player.

‘It’s a pity and I’m really disappointed for that,’ he said.  ‘It’s the first time I have received a red card in the Premier league and I hope it’s the last one. It was really disappointing, especially because the team had to play with 10 men for a long time.’

Responding to Torres’ tackle, Gower stated his agreement with the red card ruling.

‘It was not a nice tackle and it was definitely a red card,’ he told reporters.  ‘Thankfully, I have managed to get most of my body out of the way.  He has caught my ankle but you’ll have to ask him why he has done it.

‘It seemed like a needless tackle at the time,’ he continued.  ‘I had half a bad touch so I was stretching.  He seemed to lunge in and I caught him out of the corner of my eye and tried to get out of the way.’

AUTHOR’S OPINION
After some time one would realize that Torres has gone from irritating to humiliating to pitiful. But at this point in time, no one is waiting for him to admit to his horrid performance. They’re waiting for goals. The question is how much patience his seemingly loyal fans would be willing to give. At this juncture, it’s step up or leave.
