Ferguson to name Mourinho as successor

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to recommend controversial Real Madrid coach to be named his successor when he exits Old Trafford for good.

According to reports from the English press, Ferguson’s full support for Mourinho could greatly influence the club’s senior officials into considering Mourinho, despite his spotty record.

‘Alex and Jose are close,’ stated a source from the Daily Mail.  ‘Alex will do what he can to get him the United Job.’

Reports suggest that Ferguson’s belief in Mourinho’s experience and ‘winning mentality’ are the very elements required to carry on Manchester United’s performance, along with the Scot’s legacy.

‘Jose has had many problems at Real Madrid but Alex understands that is largely to do with his nationality,’ the source continued.  ‘Jose is proud of his country but Spanish people look down on the Portuguese and don’t like to take orders from them.’

Whatever additional weight would be needed by Ferguson’s insistence recently came from Man United centre back Rio Ferdinand.  Playing for the Red Devils since 2002, Ferdinand declared Mourinho to be the ‘only man big enough’ to fill Ferguson’s shoes.

Much controversy coupled with negative feedback has surrounded Mourinho’s coaching antics.  The most recent one involved him thrusting a finger into the eye of Barcelona assistant manager Tito Vilanova.

Ferguson had publicly come to Mourinho’s aid as the Portuguese was battered with both media and player disapproval for his antics.

‘I don’t find anything wrong with his enthusiasm,’ said Ferguson.  ‘When I was younger I showed more enthusiasm on the bench too…It’s Mourinho’s nature to be agitated. ‘

The Portuguese is currently seeing out a five-match Champions League touchline ban after accusing officials of favouring Madrid’s bitter rivals Barcelona.

AUTHOR’S OPINION
Bring on Mr. Special One! It’ll be massively entertaining, seeing him jump and skip and thrust fingers into eyes the next time Man United meet Man City. Although no one can say Ferguson doesn’t have a point with what he’s saying. But Mourinho is a packaged deal: with the skill you get the crazy. Is the EPL ready for him? Maybe.
