A GROUP of rowdy FC Cologne fans are now being hunted by the police for their “stinking’’ misdemeanour.
And authorities beware! They must be ready to take some cover or wear protective suits if ever they come face to face with these bums.
Their offence? Those unruly fanatics threw cups filled with urine and feces at hosts Schalke 04 backers during a Bundesliga match the past weekend.
Security staff at the Veltins Arena in Gelsinkerchen spotted them doing the disgusting act which unfortunately affected both home fans and their visitor-rivals. Schalke won the tiff 5-1.
Two suspects have already been arrested, and police are now intensifying their hunt to pin down the other culprits. A video tape of last Saturday’s proceedings is now being closely monitored to help authorities in their operation.
According to a witness, he saw one man stuffing feces in a plastic beer cup, while two others filled their cups with urine before hurling them in the direction of Schalke fans.
Shocked at the gross behaviour of their fans, Cologne president Wolfgang Overath denounced the act, saying they have no business being in the stadium.
“These are not football fans. They have no interest in the sport,’’ he told Sport-Informations-Dienst (SID), a German-language sports news agency. “It is hard to believe that football is being abused by such behaviour.’’
If apprehended, the fans also face a ban from the stadium as what was clamoured by Cologne supporters’ spokesman Rainer Mendel, who said what they committed was totally unacceptable and without excuse.
“We as a club obviously distance ourselves from these people,’’ Mendel stressed.
Chaos already started before the start of the game when Cologne fans pelted police with bottles and other hazardous objects. Authorities retaliated by using batons and pepper spray to contain the situation.
Next time around, security personnel at Veltins Arena better be ready with their crowd-control devices. They surely don’t know what’s in store for them and the home fans next.
