THE FOOTBALL Association have stepped into the John Terry-Anton Ferdinand racism issue.
England’s governing body in football launched a probe on Tuesday night and the result could again put to question his credibility to captain the Three Lions.
In a statement, the FA said they have received a complaint relating to an alleged incident of racist abuse in the recent Queens Park Rangers-Chelsea fixture and will begin enquiries into the matter.
QPR, back in the Premier League after 15 years, submitted the complaint to the FA against their west London rivals after two days of assessing the incident.
Terry said he welcomes the enquiry and is ready to clear his name as soon as possible.
The FA added they seriously take any allegations of discrimination and abuse of such type. They also asked Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas to explain his post-match comments.
Terry, captain of England and Chelsea as well, got embroiled in to the controversy when QPR defender Anton Ferdinand claimed that he was racially slurred by the veteran playmaker during Sunday’s fixture at Loftus Road which the Hoops won 1-0. Footage of the incident has already spread on the Internet.
The latest taint on the 30-year-old Terry’s scandal-marred career came just seven months before he is set to lead England in the Euro 2012. He regained the captain’s armband only last March from the brother of Ferdinand – Rio – after coach Fabio Capello has forgiven him following a sex scandal ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
Not only the FA have thrown their involvement into the matter as the police also joined the investigation.
The Scotland Yard said they are conducting a separate probe and are now assessing things after being notified of the incident.
Terry defended that the alleged comments aimed at Ferdinand – who is black – were taken out of context by social media users who spread the video on Sunday night.
The Blues skipper said he thought that the QPR player accused him of using racist slur against him so he responded aggressively by saying he never used any term.
Chelsea said they are fully supporting Terry in his bid to clear his name.
