NO matter what the atmosphere lays waiting at Anfield, Patrice Evra will be ready to play for Manchester United.
In fact, Evra will wear the captain’s armband when Manchester United battle Liverpool in their FA Cup fourth-round tie on Saturday.
The Kop are expected to be hostile to the United defender who recently lodged a racial abuse complaint against Reds striker Luis Suarez. The match will mark the first time since both squads faced each other with that incident stealing the show.
It caused the eventual suspension of Suarez for eight matches. The Uruguayan forward is currently serving the ban and it could heighten the Liverpool followers’ antagonism towards Evra.
United assistant boss Mike Phelan confirmed that Evra will play and remain captain in the absence of the injured Nemanja Vidic.
“Patrice Evra is a football player who plays for Manchester United. If he is fit, he is considered to play like any other player,” Phelan told BBC Radio.
Phelan added he is looking forward to a “very good FA Cup tie” while insinuating that what happened should be forgotten now.
Talks that Evra won’t be fielded in surfaced after United boss Sir Alex Ferguson left Wayne Rooney out of the starting lineup earlier this season when they clashed with Liverpool due to the adverse reactions the star striker receives from Reds fans. Ferguson also did not bring Rooney along when they met Everton last season.
The Red Devils are brimming with vigour when they travel to Liverpool since they are riding high on victories at Manchester City and Arsenal in their last two away fixtures.
One thing that they may hamper them though is the absence of some players due to injury.
Aside from Vidic, other key players who won’t see action are Nani (foot problem) and Rio Ferdinand (back complaint). Long-term absentees include Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young and Michael Owen.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Evra should not let that recent rift with Suarez affect his game. If he does, that could be detrimental to the Red Devils’ cause. Concentration is the name of the game in their coming match and whoever team displays that would likely get the win.

Evra is a very expirienced ,intelligent and mature player. He cannot be affected by the Suarez guff.
