Embarrassed Wenger not yet quitting

NO, not yet.

Despite the humiliating 8-2 bludgeoning Arsenal suffered at the hands of Manchester United on Sunday, Arsene Wenger insisted he is not yet resigning.

“After a game like that it’s terribly painful,’’ said the French boss. “It hurts, it was humiliating. It was a terrible day for us.’’

But he remained firm to hold on to his post despite the latest pressure. “No, not at all,’’ he replied when asked if he will call it quits during the coming international break.

Wenger said he feels he still enjoys the support of management and that he has earned the right to be judged at the end of the season after 15 years as Arsenal manager. ‘’I’ll make the right decisions for the club and I will continue to try to do that.’’

The pounding they got from the Red Devils clearly exposed the loopholes brought about by the high-profile sales of their star players – midfield masters Cesc Fabregas, now with Barcelona, and Samir Nasri, who moved to Manchester City.

In a bid to address their sagging fate, Wenger said they are aiming to sign three more players before the transfer window closes on August 31.

Among those they are eyeing is South Korean striker Park Chu Young, plus another midfielder and defender whose names were not yet revealed.

‘’I say I’m very open to finding the right players. If we find them we’ll do it,’’ he added.

The woeful Gunners have only one point after three Premier League starts. It was the first time since 1896 that the club conceded eight goals in the league, and their worst defeat against United.

In addition, they have a player sent off in each fixture, the latest of which was defender Carl Jenkinson.

As the criticisms mounted, Wenger found an ally in his United counterpart, Sir Alex Ferguson, who said the former does not deserve to be lambasted for he has ran the club well even if trophies stopped coming the Gunners’ way the past six years.
