After scoring 2 goals to help Manchester City bury Manchester United last week, Edin Dzeko again scored a brace Wednesday to help demolish the Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The match, set at the Molineux for the Carling Cup competition, saw City claim an overwhelming 5-2 away victory giving the squad their second straight win in the tournament.

The game began with an early lead by the home squad as Nenad Milijas, who scored during his team’s last 2 league games against City, netted the first goal of the match in the 18th minute.

Any jubilation that resounded from the crowd however was silenced not long after, as City’s Adam Johnson, Samir Nasri (with an assist from Johnson) and Dzeko showered the Wolves with three goals in the span of three minutes.

Another goal would be added to City’s lead by the 50th minute as a shot was deflected in by the Wolves keeper Dorus de Vries, raising the visitors’ lead to 4-1.

Finally, a setup by striker Luca Scapuzzi saw Dzeko net his second goal of the game by the 64th minute.

In a manner that possibly might have slightly buffed City’s massive blow, Wolves substitute Jamie O’Hara found the net by the 65th minute, giving a 5-2 score that would last till the final whistle.

The final score places City in the quarter-finals of the competition.

It also raises the club’s total goals made to 11 in the last 2 matches, after their 6 goals in Old Trafford.  Furthermore it adds up to a whopping 45 goals in 15 games this season.

Addressing reporters after the match, City manager Roberto Mancini noted the performance of Johnson, who along with Dzeko made highlights in the match with 1 goal and 1 determining assist.

However Mancini stated that he believed the Middlesbrough player can still contribute more, and must remain consistent in his performances, as well as attitude.

‘Sometimes he thinks, “Okay, in this game I scored one goal, I did an assist, that is enough,”’ Mancini said.  ‘I think Adam, because he is young, can improve a lot.  He needs to think in a different way.

‘He needs to think, “I scored one goal, I did one assist, I should continue because I want to score another goal and another assist, and run back to defend,”’

Mancini added that the potential within Johnson becomes one of the reasons for the manager’s disappointment whenever he fails to give his best on the field.

‘He has everything to become one of the top wingers,’ he said.  ‘Adam is young, he is in his third season in the Premier League.  I am disappointed when he doesn’t put everything on the pitch.’

Mancini made a total of 11 changes throughout the game, while the Wolves’ Mick McCarthy made nine.
