DIDIER Drogba wants to walk away from Chelsea FC.
The star striker has reportedly turned down a 12-month extension of his contract worth £120,000 a week, and plans to take on the role of a free agent by the coming summer.
According to reports, Drogba is also looking to transfer to greener, more lucrative pastures like Qatar or Russia.
An offer presented by Serie A outfit AC Milan was also turned down.
‘Didier has had the offer of a one-year extension from Chelsea,’ said Drogba’s agent Thierno Seydi. ‘That does not suit us.
‘We know what we want, where we want to go and what offers we have.’
Seydi continued that the AC Milan offer for a loan with an option to buy was immediately shoved off the table.
‘At Didier’s age, he has nothing left to prove as a player,’ Seydi insisted. ‘He will go where he is offered the most money. It could be the United States, Russia, Qatar, or somewhere in Asia.’
The agent revealed that LA Galaxy was another option, as well as Anzhi Makhachkala, the Russian club famous for making Samuel Eto’o the world’s most expensive football player. At the moment, however, an offer from either team has yet to arrive.
Drogba’s current contract with the Blues is set to expire come January 1.
Since 2008 Drogba has made a total of 101 appearances, joined the on-field lineup 82 times and has made within that period a total of 47 goals.
He entered Stamford Bridge in 2004 and has since developed cult-like status within Blues supporters.
And despite the entry of Fernando Torres, Drogba has managed to find himself back in the starting XI; the former, in the meantime, has been pushed to the substitute’s bench.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Chelsea are doomed should they lose Drogba. If anything, he is one of the few people in the squad keeping the supporters’ spirits up. And with the public already anticipating the exit or sacking of another manager, losing a crucial player might be too much to take.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
