FORMER Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas rebuffed a report quoting him as saying that the Gunners are already a spent force in the Premier League.
“I’d never speak one bad word about Arsenal,’’ Fabregas said on his Twitter account last Thursday.
The Sport magazine was reported to have quoted Fabregas as saying that he left Arsenal because of the uncertainty over the team’s short-term goals and that he finds it hard for Arsenal winning the league or Champions League in the near future.
But the 24-year-old Spain international, who returned to his boyhood club Barcelona last summer, vehemently denied making such comments.
“Here once more proves that so many people put in newspaper what they want and it’s not professional,’’ he wrote. “I want Arsenal to be successful as much as every single fan. That’s not why I left, it was never in my mind. AFC made me who I am today and nobody will ever change that.’’
Fabregas clarified he never gave any interview since his presentation as new Barcelona member. “I just said the truth and what came out of my heart. Great words about this great football Arsenal because that’s just what they deserve – success and trophies.’’
Sport quoted Fabregas as having said: “I want to be in a club that is able to win the big titles year after year and I don’t see that kind of future for Arsenal. I still have many feelings for Arsenal, but I fear that they won’t be able to push other big clubs in England away.’’
The magazine also quoted him as saying that he can’t see Arsenal finishing in front of teams like Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea because “there’s just too big a difference between the squads.’’
Fabregas had not ruled out the possibility of returning to Arsenal one day.
Under his contract with Barca, Arsenal can buy him back if ever he parts way with Barcelona.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Fabregas can make denials all day long. He is just commenting on the sad state of the Gunners at present. Arsenal fans may argue but Fabregas was just telling the truth. Arsene Wenger and his men will find it difficult to become champions this season.
Luis Suarez confirmed that he still dreams of one day playing in Spain, but reminds everyone that he’s still happy to play with Liverpool for the time being.
