A GROUP of burglars invaded the £4.5 million home of Stoke striker and England international Peter Crouch and made off with the family’s Christmas presents.
The incident took place Wednesday night, as Crouch and wife Abbey Clancy were returning to their home in Mottram St. Andrew, near Macclesfield, after a night out.
Upon realising what had happened, 25-year old Abbey rang the police to report the crime.
‘Abbey and Peter are naturally distressed that this has happened, particularly in the run-up to Christmas,’ explained an unnamed friend of the couple.
Reports indicate that the thieves, believed to have entered through a kitchen window, must have been observing the home of the 30-year old player. It is suspected that they were on standby as they waited for husband and wife to leave.
The burglars had made off with a set of expensive items along with the presents. Some of the items included a number of Rolex watches and other jewellery. A number of electrical items were also stolen, according to authorities.
Throughout the entire event, however, the couple’s nine-month old daughter was fortunately also out of the house and in the care of relatives.
This is reportedly not the first time that Crouch had been the victim of burglars. According to Mirror Football, the player’s home in Alderly Edge, Cheshire, was also hit by burglars five years ago, before he had moved to his present home with his family.
During that first burglary, the thieves had stolen a number of valuables and had escaped in the Aston Martin in Crouch’s drive.
The incident also involved significant property damage, as leather sofas were slashed open and other property destroyed.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
This is a massively depressing turn of events. Of course this is nothing compared to the other disasters happening this time of year, but one can’t really deny that a house burglary would put a damper on one’s Christmas spirit. Guess it’s one of the unfortunate prices you pay for being rich and famous around the holidays.
