EUROPEAN clubs hoping to sign up David Beckham may forget about their bid for now.

The 36-year-old Beckham was reported to be close to playing for one more year with the LA Galaxy in the US Major League Soccer.

His current contract with the Galaxy expires at the end of the season but he would stay with the squad for another year.

Main reason why the former Manchester United and England stalwart chose to remain at Galaxy was the fact that he desires to keep his family in Los Angeles.

The wily midfielder, who has been with the Galaxy since 2007, has been targeted by several European sides as his existing contract comes to an end. Among those interested to tap his services are Premier League teams Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspur, and French outfit Paris Saint Germain.

Sources close to the Galaxy said Beckham could finalise his fresh deal in a few weeks.

The Galaxy subdued local rivals Chivas 1-0 last Sunday to notch an unbeaten slate going into the postseason. They also earned the tag as title favourites by virtue of the win.

Beckham had earlier avoided talks about a return to the Galaxy but acknowledged negotiations are already under way.

“I have a lot of offers,’’ he revealed. ” The Galaxy have talked to me and of course there is a possibility that I will come back here next season.’’

With a fully-fit Beckham leading the team, the Galaxy are aiming to snare their first title with the charismatic player around.

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said their campaign this season is proving to be the most productive since Beckham resumed his career in America.

“He has done great things for this league and this franchise,’’ Arena said of Beckham. “Who would ever think at the end of it all that it would be seen as a great move – but it has been.’’
